Today’s Run: 7 miles. Time1:33
Today’s run was difficult. It was almost 80 degrees by the time we were done and it was only 8:30! The result was that we went slow. As a matter of fact, we went slower than slow. Our average pace was about 14:00 min. mile. We saw lots of things on our slow run today, the most notable one was a millipede. It was larger than expected, about 2 1/2 inches long and fat! When stopping to thing about it, I guess it would need to be long to fit all those feet in there.
The other thing that was notable today was the way our shadows followed us the entire run. It was a beautiful, sunny day (ie: no shade) so we had the company of our shadows. So, I was reminded of the poem by Robert Louis Stevenson my mother had me learn when I was little, so I will share it with you.
I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me,
And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head,
And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed.
The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow-
Not at all like proper children, which is always very slow;
For he sometimes shoots up taller like an india-rubber ball,
And he sometimes goes so little that there’s none of him at all…
