Last night we discussed the restoration work that my husband and I have been doing on an old 1941 Silvertone radio. It has a very pretty cabinet and once we get this thing put back together it should be an attractive piece.
I also told you that we rewound the speaker coil and glued together the speaker cone and that while it was an admirable attempt at reusing original pieces of the radio, it was an epic fail.
I was really, most sincerely, WRONG! Cool Beans!!!
We hooked the radio up this evening to a signal generator. A signal generator generates signals (go figure). This told us two things:
1. The radio itself still does not work
2. The speaker DOES WORK!
How exciting is that!?!
We think we have determined that the problem lies in T1 (transformer 1). So, the next thing on the agenda is to figure out how to open that can and get to the guts of the thing and test everything to see what will be the best approach.
We are really quite amazed and excited that this speaker really works! It was kicking out a lot of noise!!! The dog hated it and ran and hid~my hero!
