Bees Knees

Today’s Run:  4.22 miles

Made a phone call this morning to Bushy Mountain Bee Farm.  This is the place from where I order my bee keeping equipment.  It is Springtime and just like the bunnies, bees start hatching new larvae at an alarming rate.  They are preparing for the Summer and to do that, you need a lot of bees.

In the Spring, you need to make “splits”.  If you do not make splits, you risk swarming of your bees.  Splits are when you divide the population of your hive~hence the name, splits.  It is not a complicated process but you need the equipment for housing the bees.  You need bottom boards, supers, frames, queen excluders…all the things necessary to make a happy home for the bees.

This year we are a little short on supers and frames.  We needed to order two more complete hives.  So, I called Bushy Mountain.

The other reason I called was because I was getting stung through the top of me bee hat.  We have an incredibly grouchy hive and they really “drill” when they get upset and they have been stinging me through the top of my hat.  Ouch!  So, I talked to the lady about a different type of head protection.

Surprise!  That should not happen!!!  They are looking into it and they may replace my hat~FREE!  Cool Beans!!!
