Today’s Run: 60 min lifting at the “Y”
I have been KC0JPT since January 30, 2001. KC0JPT is my Amateur Radio (“ham”) call sign given to my by the FCC way back then.
I hold a Technicians license with the FCC as a “ham”. I took a written test way back in 2001 and actually passed! I had to wait a couple of weeks to receive my “call sign” and then I could legally operate on air as a ham~as KC0JPT.
Hams are know usually as emergency people. People who broadcast for the weather service during severe weather, doing traffic/emergency relays during road relays/races…just doing communication in general. Hams like to talk!
My husband is the one responsible for getting me involved in Amateur Radio. He has been a “ham” since high school. He really likes to do code (Morse code). He has talked to roughly 120 different countries and to all of the states in the United States. He is a “Good Ham”.
I, other the other hand, am a “Bad Ham”. I am not very active with talking to people on air. But that is okay. If the need arose, I would be there to help!
All that to say, I received a new call sign yesterday from the FCC! I am no longer KC0JPT. I am now, KF5TRG. Why the change? We moved from Colorado to Mississippi and I decided to change my call sign to a Mississippi call sign. And I wanted to change to a Mississippi call sign so I could get a Mississippi vanity call sign.
So, last night I applied for my vanity call sign: W5MSH. It should take 2-3 weeks for the application to go through and for the approval. Sure hope I get it, because it is perfect!
73’s!!!
