Rest Day, Paxton, Chickens and Memories

So, today is my “Rest Day.”  I put “Rest Day” in quotes for a reason.  As a rule, my rest day’s are anything but a true day of rest.

On my running days, I am dog tired from my efforts on the road.  Mentally and physically.

I focus very hard on what I am doing while running.  I my mind I am taking into account my level of perceived exertion, trying to simulate a specific portion of an upcoming race and making myself power through, say, mile 22 of a marathon and of course, doing math.  Let’s see…if I change my route and do this instead of that, my mileage would end up being, X miles?

Mentally by the end of a run, I’m pooped!

Physically I am exhausted as well!

This time of year, with our Mississippi heat/humidity, it’s like somebody or something has sucked your soul right out of you.  I have absolutely nothing left when I’m done.  I sit like a lump of person for a bit when I’m done with my run.  MFH (My Favorite Husband) has been known to take sympathy on me and remove my shoes/socks because the thought of bending over and doing it myself is just too much.

Pretty pathetic now that I think about it!

Needless to say, with me running 3+ hours a day this time of year, not much else gets done around the house.  This takes us back to “Rest Days.”

A rest day is the day of the week where I fly around like a crazy person trying to get accomplished EVERYTHING that did not get done around the house since my last rest day.  This means mowing (usually close to three hours), and cleaning.

I do a respectable job of keeping up with the laundry, dishes and cooking.  The rest of the house could really stand to be bulldozed.

Dusting, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing toilets, showers…..it all has to get done on rest day.

So, what does this have to do with Paxton and chickens?

Hahaha!!!

This morning on FB, I got a notice about my memories posts.  Do you get those?  Anyway, just for fun, I clicked on the link and saw a post from 2013 about my chickens.  There was Paxton sitting like a good dog watching the chickens.

It made me miss my chickens.  They were so much fun!!!

Seeing as I had just finished with the mowing and I need to put together a post for my cute as can be running buddy, Aiden, I decided to use the chicken post for him.

Everyday, Paxton sends little Aiden puppy kisses.  It’s just a “thing” I add to a post.  It’s cute and Aiden is only 3.5 yo, so it’s age appropriate…it works, let’s just say that.  I also found a pic of Castro being a strange kitty.

See, Castro has recently decided that it is fun to rest on the hall bathroom sink next to the sink full of water.  He’ll sit there forever!  I have strange animals.

Now that I’ve told you all of this, I’ll share with you Aiden’s post of the day:

A very happy and sunny Tuesday to you, Aiden! It’s such a pretty morning. It is warming up fast so we hopped on the mower pretty early and mowed for 3 hours. Got it all done by 11:00 and it was only 91*! That’s not so bad, is it? I don’t know if you knew it but I used to have chickens! They were so funny! Did you know that chickens could be silly? I had a black hen named Rover. Rover liked to escape and come up to the back door. She would peer in waiting for me to take her back. She liked to be carried like a baby and that is why she would come to the door. Chickens are very funny. Paxton loved the chickens and would sit and watch them for a long time. He never tried to hurt them. I think he was guarding them. Who knows? Castro wants us to fill the bathroom sink with water and then he sits next to it for a long, long time. My animals do strange things now that I think about it! Haha!!! I bet your Ariel is very dignified and would never do silly things like that! That’s our rest day today. Tomorrow we will be running at dark o’clock. Hope you’re ready to grab some miles for breakfast! We will be setting the alarm for 3:30 again so if you want to sleep in, I definitely understand.  Have a fabulous Tuesday, buddy! I am a lucky girl indeed to have you as my running buddy!!! Love, hugs and kisses from me and Paxton is sending puppy kisses today, too! Mel
