So many names

[Saturday run in Starkville 5.6 miles]

I was folding clothes this morning. For awhile I listened to a podcast, then I did my Sunday morning call to Mom and Dad.

After that I was thinking about names and how many names and handles I have.

When I started working my current job I found that there was another Christopher Howard in the organization. His middle name is different. Our email addresses for work have the middle initial, so in theory people should be able to tell us apart, but the short version that actually shows up in most situations has his name in mixed case and mine in ALL CAPS, neither one includes the middle initial.

I think I was in my early 20s before I ran into another Chris Howard. When Google had their Facebook clone application I did a search for all of the Chris Howard users and sent them a friend request. That app didn’t last long, but I did have a very small Chris Howard club there for a bit.

These days every website wants a person to create a username and password. Or worse yet, download their app which will want a username and password. So I have to dream up something, usually it is one of two or three fundamental forms with variations.

And I’ve had a lot of email addresses over the years. And a few phone numbers, although those don’t seem like handles. I have had 3 ham radio callsigns.

I use different names in different situations. Sometimes I use Christopher, but usually it is Chris. I developed my signature with Chris, so that is what I write. I remember one time at a house purchase I had to sign a document that said signature Chris Howard also meant Christopher Howard.

And I have had a couple of nick names. The first one that ever stuck was coined by an eccentric ham radio guy in Colorado who died a few years ago. My radio callsign was KC0ATC and he said that ATC meant Angry Tried and Cranky. So he called me Cranky.

My wife calls me MFH on social media and sometimes in person. She tells me it stands for My Favorite Husband. That is much better than being called her least favorite husband.
