Peachtree 10k

[Wednesday: 3.5 miles; yesterday 3.5 miles;  0 today]

Tomorrow we hop in the car and drive to Atlanta for the Peachtree 10k.  My wife is running in it.  She tells me it is the most populous 10k in the world, something like 60,000 runners.  That’s a lot of people.  I’m planning to mostly just stay out of the way.  A 10k is 6.2 miles, that should take her about an hour and I’m a bit doubtful whether I will be there at the finish.  So she and I will have to work out a meeting plan for after the race.

Today I went with #1 son and his new dog over to a lake in the Tombigbee National Forest.  It was a hot day, but nice in the shade.  The pup was having a fun time playing in the water and running around.  We both enjoyed casting into the lake from the bank but neither of us had any action from the fish.

This morning I was supposed to climb the tower to work on the ham radio club’s antenna setup.  We tried to move that forward last Tuesday evening.  We met about 6 pm and I got up the tower OK.  But as soon as I got there I started feeling really bad, kind of nauseous and crampy and just terrible.  The temp was in the 80’s and I was sweating buckets and it just was not going to happen. So I came back down without doing any of the work.

Like I said, I was supposed to do it this morning and I was aiming to do it this morning.  I packed up my stuff and got over there… when my partner in the project noticed that I had forgotten to bring my climbing gear!  So we decided to call it off and try another day.

I will be happy to get that project done.  I think I’ve been up that tower four or five times now and I expect there are at least two more trips to be done.  I am not a very speedy tower climber;  I use my rock climbing gear that I bought in Colorado.  It is safe, but not as convenient as it could be.  So it takes me longer to get up there and get tied in and comfortable… and also slower on the trip down.
