[Ran yesterday, 2+ miles]
I’ve been doing my almost daily morning blather on YouTube for over a year now. And I am still enjoying that.
But YouTube and my running watch have filled the needs I used to fill by writing in this blog. The running watch keeps record of when I run and how much. And YouTube lets me talk about whatever ideas have been on my mind recently.
But one thing is going unaccomplished which I formerly leaned on this blog to perform and that was as a more permanent diary of my experiences, things like travel, projects, the kinds of things that I have a hard time sorting out after time has passed. I could search this blog and find out when we took that trip to Maine or resurrect the details on how to hook up my ancient video camera.
I’m not sure what I want to do about that. I have started some kind of diary more than once but they usually last about three days.
But, for today I want to make a note that we traveled to Colorado in July and enjoyed a nice visit with our loved ones there. We spent one night sleeping in a tent in the Chambers Lake Campground. Since I am working 1/2 time, I was able to trim two days off the lead-up week and two days off of the following week and thereby kept my full load going.
We flew out on Friday, had time to visit the grandkids on Saturday a bit before they headed off to camping. Then we loafed a bit on Sunday before following. We camped overnight Sunday, back in the ABnB on Monday night, up and out early for the airport on Tuesday.
Then in August I spent a similar long weekend to drive to Des Moines, visit with the Bush family, stop in and see Mom and go to the State Fair.
On my way north to Des Moines I drove through Vickesburg, NE Louisiana, Arkansas (having lunch with Olsen near Little Rock), and spent the night in Joplin MO. Truncating the trip at that point gave me the chance to visit the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, AR. The next day I started out pretty early and made it to Des Moines before noon.
On that second trip I did not pad my working days so I ended up with a slightly lower number of hours but no backlash from the office.
Now we are nearing September and I hope to get something accomplished with the radio tower that is still standing in Columbus. I think we have decided the radio station is about over. At one time I had a nibble from someone who maybe wanted to keep the license in play to use the station for another purpose. I have not heard anything more about that idea. But we can keep the station in an off-the-air mode for awhile without any big repercussions, so we might do that in case someone sorts it out. I had done a little bit of prompting in our over-the-air content to get people to send us email if they are listening either local or by streaming. So far I have received one email in all the weeks that has been running.
I think the time for this format idea has come and gone. I see that I-Heart-Radio has audio books on their website (I would have to dig it up again) and I think they are using the free Librivox material to do that. So the world won’t go without. The only difference that we add is a automated selection such that a person could just turn on their radio and hear what is playing without having to know what is good and what isn’t.
Maybe I’ll stop here and write more of my thoughts regarding our radio station experiment at a later time.
