[Yesterday: track workout at MSU]

I had the opportunity to go do some track work last night at the Mike Sanders Track Complex over at MSU.

I’ve been wanting to get myself into a real 100 meter race someday, something really timed.  This may be a mistake.  But I thought I would go down that road a bit and see where it takes me.  I have had this idea for a few years that I might want to try it in the Mississippi Senior Games some day.

So, I had heard about a group track workout that happens over in Starkville and I went on over.  I was somewhat confused about where it was happening, so I got there quite a bit late.  But I eventually found it.  There were 3 other people from the workout group I was looking for.

The track complex is really nice.  In fact, they are having a NCAA multi-team meet there today and tomorrow.  I did my thing while probably a hundred other people were doing sprints, hurdles, high/long jump and other activities in preparation for the weekend event.  I could tell they knew what they were doing, as opposed to my own attempts!

I did 3 laps for a warm up then 3 repeats of 30 meters, 3x 50 meters and then 3x 90 meters as fast as I could go.  Then I did 4 laps for cool down.  Today I’m hobbling around somewhat.  But I don’t think I have done any serious damage.

All of the college athletes were probably wondering what the old, slow, fat guy was doing.  But one of the things about athletic endeavours is that you have to get out there and “own” your space and give it a try.
