Summertime

[Thursday: 50 minutes; today: 6 miles]

I got home from my travels on Friday.  This morning we went to the Boardtown Runners and ran with them.  We have been hit-and-miss in the last few months due to schedule problems.  But I’ve been there now two weeks in a row.  I enjoy talking to the people.  I need to get back into some better shape so I can run a bit faster.

Summer is in full swing in Mississippi.  I was sweating like Niagara Falls during our run today.  I am so thankful for air conditioning.

I have transitioned to cargo shorts and short sleeves.  You ever see those guys on TV who are portraying southern men, they wear a dress shirt with the sleeves cut off?  That makes perfect sense to me.  I like the material of dress shirts but short-sleeve shirts are hit and miss depending on the fit of the shoulder and the length of the sleeve. Many times the sleeve will hit right in the wrong spot on your arm and snag in your elbow every time you bend the arm. Ugh.  A nice cotton, button down shirt with the sleeves cut off sounds great.

But no, I’m not going to rip the sleeves off of my good shirts.  I’ll wear polos until next November when the real clothing can come back out.

When I run I wear the “tech” kind of shirt.  After a bit they fill up with water, not as bad as a cotton T-shirt but still heavy and hot.  I’m thinking they should invent one with “ribs” of some sort that would channel the water down to the bottom and drip off.
