Meteor Scatter

[Today’s run: rest day]

I’ve been listening on 2 meter SSB for activity via meteor scatter, but not hearing much.

We are in the Geminids meteor shower now, they tell me.  And radio signals that would normally go whizzing out to space can be reflected off of the trails of ionized atmospheric particles left by meteors as they burn up.

And sophisticated ham radio types can communicate in this way.

There are computer programs which make it pretty easy (so they say).  But I don’t have any of that set up.  I was just trying to hear some beacons or other signals.

I did hear a few things come through from a beacon on 144.285, just a couple of letters in morse code.

Maybe someday I will get the computer software (which is free) and see how that goes.  Without help from some guys on the internet I would be totally lost.  Even with the help I’m not hearing much.
