New feedline – tried it out

[Today’s run: 5.5 miles – hot]

Yesterday I got together with AD5T, Roger up in Smithville and we did an on-the-air test of my new VHF configuration.  It was he that gave me the CATV 75-ohm hardline to try out.

I heard him fine.  He said that I’m a couple of  S-units louder than I was before.  That’s a good thing!

Tonight there was a big E-s opening on 2 meters.  I saw the big red blob on the APRS map.  I also watched the  on-line 2-meter chat and lots of guys were making lots of contacts.  I heard a few local stations.  I got one contact, which was a very good one, n9olt on the shore of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin.  That is a _long_ shot for 10 watts on 2 meter sideband.  He came in plain as day.  But then he was gone.

They tell me the E-s cloud was too close to me.  It was up over W. Kentucky or Tennessee.  The guys south of me were able to talk into Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and more.

So, the new setup is working fine.  And I got it put back together in time for a big band opening, maybe the biggest of this year.
