Antenna Testing

[Today’s run: 6 miles (silo route)]

The other day I put my 2 meter beam up on a short mast strapped to a 4×4 post (part of the dog’s run) and attempted to tune it up for 75 ohms.

I thought I had it ok. But then I put the 50 ohm dummy load at the end of the line and it showed 1.1:1 SWR for the 50 ohm load just like it did for the 75 ohm antenna. That doesn’t seem right.

I used the swr bridge in field-strength mode and I could tell that the front of the antenna was radiating more than the back or sides. That’s somewhat comforting.

Well, I think it is as good as I’m going to get it. All I need now is a clear day, not too breezy, and I’ll get the antenna and the new feedline installed on the tower.
