Night of Miracles

Today’s Run:  6.05 miles

*no problems logging into my blog tonight  🙂

When I was a kid, our church put on the Christmas cantata my John W. Peterson, Night of Miracles.  It seemed like we put it on every Christmas season (at least for 3 years) and I can remember going down to the KRNT studio and watching people sing with an orchestra and everything for the radio.  To this day, I can sing, by memory, a major portion of this cantata…Niiiight of Miracles, Niiiiight of Miracles, it was a glorious night divine….”

John W. Peterson had a pattern to his music.  He would take a Biblical quote and then repeat it two or three times and move on the the next Biblical quote.  I loved Night of Miracles.

So, imagine my surprise and joy to find part of Luke chapter 2 written out on my Gas Station windows today.  (Shell Station).  How does that fit into Night of Miracles?  Well…one of the songs is a direct quote from this passage (complete with the repeats  🙂  “Fear not!  For behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy! Which shall be unto all people.  For unto you is born this day, in the City of David and Savior which is Christ the Lord…”

So, today, I have had that song on the brain and have been singing that song and driving my husband nuts (who also knows this cantata and therefore has it on the brain, too).

But, isn’t it cool, that a gas station would take the entire West side windows of their establishment and write out a portion of Luke 2 !?!  They also have a nativity scene below the scripture passage!  Somebody there has guts and I for one, am impressed.

So, Google John W. Peterson’s, Night of Miracles.  I bet you can listen to it online.  It is great.  I have fond memories of listening to is as a little kid and to this day, I think it is the best Christmas music ever.
