Today’s Run:  Rest Day

Today was a day of shopping.  I shopped on Craigslist for chicken tractors.  My son is getting me chickens for Christmas (I can hardly wait!  Fresh eggs!!!) but I need a place to keep my chickens~other than in the house, that is.  So, I turned to Craigslist for hopefully something inexpensive?  Ha! Ha!

I actually found one that looked good!  And it was only $400.00.  So, my husband and I talked it over and I made the call.  The guy had just sold it a half hour earlier.  boo.  Back to the drawing board.

After looking at various websites and the other pics on craigslist, I know pretty much what I want in a chicken tractor.  I want the roosting part to be 4.5′ x 5.5′ and the run to be 7′ x 4′ x 3′.  It will need 10″ wheels and corrugated fiberglass roofing on the run and the roosting box area.  Nothing fancy, just the basics.  Shopping on the Lowe’s website, we have a pretty good idea of supplies and the cost involved.  We are ready, well almost ready, to build!

I want a tractor because of the need to relocate the birds every week or so.  That way they will have fresh grass and new bugs to eat (and in Mississippi, there are lots of BIG bugs!).  Plus, it will help eliminate smell.  With a two acre lot, they should be manageable.

I am really looking forward to this Christmas gift.  I think the chickens will be a lot of fun.  Whether they arrive as chicks or I get fully grown birds is of no difference to me, I plan on enjoying them either way!
