Today’s Run: 3.56 miles (Watson Rd)
I am interested in getting chickens. Not roosters but hens. For the eggs. And because I want some chickens. It seems a shame that we live in the country and do not have any chickens. It is not like I want a goat, or a pig or anything, just a few hens would suffice.
Because I am interested in chickens, I have been doing a little reading online about having them and housing them. I think the way I want to go is with a chicken tractor. This is very similar to a coop except that it has no bottom, is portable and your chickens can “scratch”, eat insects, grass, table scraps, etc.
In my research on chickens I have run across some interesting things. There are a great variety of chickens. You can have “mixed breed” chickens aka: mutts and of course your real chickens (not to be confused with rubber chickens).
(As a side note: I entered a rubber chicken throwing contest at the Iowa State Fair this Summer~received a yellow participation ribbon!)
By far, the most unusual thing I found on the internet pertaining to chickens is, well, rather embarrassing. At least I would hope the person who made this video is embarrassed: The Yodeling Chicken Herder…
