Paxton and the School Bus

I know Paxton has been gone for a while now and I’ve tried not to mention him much.  He’ll always be near and dear to my heart but y’all don’t want to be hearing about my dog over and over and over again.  Y’all were so kind when he was sick and then when I had to put him down…at that time I decided that was enough. No more mentioning Paxton in my blogs.

That was until today.  I met someone at the gas station and chatting with her touched my heart and I just had to tell you about it.

Paxton was a dear.  I know you all remember his quirky little ways.  I’m sure you remember how when I’d clean the glass on the front door, I’d have to put blue tape on it so Paxton wouldn’t try to run through the glass?  What a goofy puppy he was!  You’d think after living at our house for 7 years he’d learn that was a door!!!

I’m positive you remember his love of wearing neckties.  He genuinely looked spiffy!  I think GQ Magazine dropped the ball not putting that pudgy pooch on the cover at least once in his puppy lifetime.

He was always stylin’ those neckties!

Here’s what happened today:

I was at the gas station when a nice lady walked up to me.  She said, “I know who you are.  You have the dog that wears neckties!  I’m the school bus driver that drives down your street.”

I immediately knew who she was when she said that.  See, every morning Paxton would sit at the front door and watch for the school bus.  He’d hear the school bus coming and get all excited.

As the school bus drove past our house, the driver would toot the bus horn at our house, saying good morning to Paxton!  I always got the biggest kick out of that.  So did Paxton!  He’d strut around like a proud puppy, “The school bus said ‘Hi’ to me!”

I swear he was the silliest guy ever!!!

So when the school bus driver lady mentioned she hadn’t seen him in a while, I had to tell her the news that he had been sick and was no longer with us.

She was so sad to hear that!!!  She mentioned how much she looked forward to seeing him sitting in the door every day on her route and she always checked to see if he had a new necktie.

Isn’t it crazy how that pudgy pooch could touch people!?!

He was a special guy~no doubt about it.

Dog or human, we just never know how many lives we touch. Paxton just seemed to make everyone smile. Miss him!
