Name In The Hat #Hopeless

Last year, about this time, I put my name in the hat for my first World Major Marathon.  New York City.

What is a World Major Marathon?

THE WORLD MARATHON MAJORS MEMBER CITIES:  Tokyo, London, Boston, Berlin, Chicago and New York City.

These are BIG races.

The date for the drawing for New York City arrived.  I was surprised to find myself super nervous!  I knew the odds of getting into that race basically didn’t exist.  It would be nice, though, right!?!

I did not get into that race but two of my friends did!  That was cool and I was happy for them.

Not long after the drawing for NYC, the lottery for the Chicago Marathon opened.  I shrugged and put my name in the hat for Chicago.  After the disappointing result from NYC, I honestly didn’t expect to get into Chicago.

Imagine my shock when they pulled my name out of that hat!  I was in!!!

Cool Beans!

MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I drove to Chicago.  He cheered me on while I ran.  We had a great time.  My first World Major.  It was a pretty big deal!

I know all of you know my 30th Wedding Anniversary is this coming May.  I wanted to something special for our 30th.  Maybe a trip to Europe?  I got on Google.

I missed the time period for putting my name in the hat for both London and Paris.  Rats.  But, look!  Berlin was still accepting names!  Hmmmm…

I put my name in the hat.

The morning of the drawing for Berlin, I dragged my sorry self out of bed and booted up my laptop.  Made coffee.  Had breakfast with MFH.  Finally, I sat down to go through my email.

HOLY COW!!!  There was an email all in German.  Once I found the part in English, I found out that we would be going to Berlin to celebrate our Anniversary!!!  Wowzers!  Too cool!!!

Now, we are back to where I started this whole thing.  NYC.  The lottery opens on the 15th (Thursday) at noon (EST).

Yes, I know I’m running Berlin but I HAVE to put my name in the hat.  I mean, what are the odds?  BUT, then again, what are the odds!?!  I’d go nuts not knowing if I might have gotten in.
