May 24, 2015 will be MFH (My Favorite Husband) and my 30th Wedding Anniversary.  We are pretty excited about this!  Anniversary’s are special and all, but this one is a big one!

We have talked a bit about someday taking a trip to Europe.  We like to travel.  We enjoy going on drives across the United States.  We do some flying but as a general rule, we drive.  Flying is so intrusive (thank you TSA and all your dumb rules) and we prefer to just hop in the car and go wherever we want.

Europe.  That is an entirely different ball game.  A lot of ramifications involved in a trip across the Ocean.  The thought was rather intimidating so we would just push the idea to the back of our minds and never take any action on that dream.

Well, with our 30th Anniversary coming up next year, I decided that we needed a good excuse to HAVE to travel.  I got an idea.  We travel for races all the time.  Usually we have one big race a year that involves travelling.  Two years ago it was to Maine for a marathon and this year to Chicago for the marathon there.  What about a marathon in Europe?  Hmmm….

I started Googling.

Rats.  I was too late for London and besides, that is almost impossible to get into.  Paris, just missed the dates for that one, too.  What were the major marathons anyway?  Google is my friend and did not let me down.  Berlin.  Hey!  Berlin is a Fall marathon and that was the time of year I wanted to run anyway.  I put my name in the hat.  This was before I even ran Chicago.

I pushed the drawing date to the back of my mind.

I new the drawing was getting close but MFH had his birthday this week and I wanted to make that day special for him.  The drawing completely slipped my mind.

Now, I am a creature of habit or should I say, I like structure.  My mornings are pretty much the same thing.  Breakfast with MFH then coffee at my laptop.  I scroll through social media and save my Yahoo mail for last.  Yahoo mail is pretty dull stuff so I save it for last just because it is boring.

So, this morning, I opened up my Yahoo mail and saw this:  wir hoffen Sie sind bereit zur 42. Auflage des BMW BERLIN-MARATHON die 42 km (+195 Meter) durch die Hauptstadt zu laufen, denn: Sie wurden ausgelost und sind im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes “am Start”!

I said, “huh???”

I looked for a translation button.  Didn’t see one, so I kept on scrolling until I saw this!:    We hope you are ready to participate in the 42nd edition of the 42 km (+195 Meter) at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON race through the capital… for your name was drawn for a spot at the starting line!

Woo-Hoo!!!  I let out a whoop and MFH said, “What in the world is going on!?!”

I replied, “You need to get your Passport updated, Sweetie, because we are going to Germany!!!”

Yup.  Germany for our Anniversary!  How awesome is that!?!

Over lunch today, I asked him, “So, what do you want to do when we are in Germany.”

He said, “Well, I hear there are castles there.”

“Yes!  Yes there ARE castles in Germany!” I replied.

We are going to see castles!  I am going to drink ice cold beer out of a German Beer Stein.  I want one with a flip top lid!  I think MFH should buy a pair of lederhosen.  HA!

Oh, yea.  And I am going to run a race!

The race is September 27, 2015.  Oh~Y’all are going to get sooooo sick of hearing about this one!  I promise you that!  Hey, YA!
