Marathon Stategies

Next Sunday is the Chicago Marathon.  It’s almost here.

All week, I have been thinking about this.  Assessing where I am fitness wise and head wise.

My Bib Ticket came in the mail this week.  It came with a booklet outlining the race, the course, the Expo, public transportation, blah, blah, blah…

The thing that caught my attention was the Nike area.  Now, let it be known right here, I do not own one item of Nike stuff.  No shoes, clothing, app, nothing.  I’m not anti-Nike, it’s just their stuff doesn’t work for me.  Their clothes don’t fit right, their shoes hate my feet, their app sucks my phone battery dry….I know they’ve got some great stuff, but for me, it’s a no go.

Except…

Nike is having pace groups!  I’ve never run with a pace group before, but as they say, “There’s a first time for everything,” right?  The pace groups are at no charge.  You are not required to stay with your pace group if they are a) too fast or b) too slow or c) you don’t like it!  Plus, they are free!

Free is good!

They have a pace group that is kind of in the ball park of where I would like to try (TRY) to complete the race. I’m thinking I may sign up for this pace group at the Expo.

Having to reassess everything after my head injury has been a pain.  To be honest, I really have no idea as to how I will do.  A person has to start somewhere, right?

So, I am telling you now, I am going to sign up for the pace group for completion in 5:25.  Not speedy in the least.  It may actually be a little bit too fast for my head, but since I don’t have to stay with the group, no harm done.

They shut off the clock at 6:30, so that still gives me an hour of wiggle room.

Fingers crossed!

6 Days!
