MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I ran the Schaeffer’s Chapel route this morning. To reach the Chapel, we have to cross Highway 45 South. They have been working on turning the Highway into a four lane from a two lane.
I have logged many running miles on the new section of Highway 45 South. The feel of fresh, springy asphalt under one’s feet is a wonderful, wonderful thing. My feet have been very happy during the time the highway has been under construction.
But, all good things sometimes come to an end. They are opening the new highway on Thursday.
In farewell to my “New Highway” I intend to run my first long training run for my 50K on that stretch of road.
From our driveway to the end of the blockaded section of new construction is 8 miles. On. The. Button. That makes 16 miles out and back! When I was training for the 50 miler, I would run that over and over. I knew every inch of that road. I have missed running it what with the stress fracture and all.
So,
I am really glad to be able to have one last chance to run a long run on that stretch of road. It will be bittersweet. I am looking forward to it!
They have large, round bales of hay in the middle of the new highway right now~This tells me that tomorrow they will be spraying grass seed on the shoulders of the road. This also tells me that it will be a messy run.
I do not care. This is my last chance to run this road. I will miss it. It has been good to me.
Farewell, old friend.
