I am going to get to try a Slugburger this May 2, 2014. I think I am excited???
There is only one town in the world that serves Slugburgers. Corinth, Mississippi.
MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I will be in Corinth, Mississippi, that evening and the next day for a 10K race, the Coke Classic 10K. It is The Best 10K in Mississippi~and I should know, I have run quite a few of them.
The Coke 10K has great water stops. Great fans. Live bands. Great food afterwards and Super, Super medals! Awesome race!
But a Slugburger?
I have a friend who MFH and I will be meeting when we arrive in Corinth on May 2nd. He has recommended the Slugburger Cafe as THE place to go for Slugburgers. I hope by now you are curious as to what makes a Slugburger a Slugburger.
During the Depression years, diner cooks sought to stretch ground beef to get more burgers per pound. Originally these hamburgers were made using potato flour as an extender. Today, the beef mixture contains soybean grits. The slugburger is made into small patties, which are fried in canola oil. They are traditionally served topped with mustard, dill pickles, and onions on a small 5-inch hamburger bun. * Wikipedia
The Slugburger even has its own Festival in Corinth. That Festival began in 1988. Here is a video clip and in it they describe the Slugburger a little bit…and all the festival stuff, too.
Looks like a good time! Sounds like a good time! Who knows…maybe later on this year I will be writing another blog post from Corinth, Mississippi covering the Slugburger Festival! Good times!!!
