Today’s Run:  Crutches

I’ve gone a done it this time!

Now bear in mind I do not find out specifics until next week, but it looks like I have a stress fracture in my femur.

That stress fracture explains the pain in my thigh.  It explains the blisters.  It explains why my pace is dropping off dramatically.  It explains it all.

On Christmas Day, I was scheduled to run 24 miles.  I did it!  It was an awesome run!  I did it in record time. My leg really started aching during that run but, well, 24 miles…that is to be expected.  Right!?!

MFH (My Favorite Husband) set out water stops along my route.  He is a keeper, he is.  At the water stops, he put out Advil! What a lifesaver!  I kept popping the Advil at each water stop and the dull ache subsided.

That evening my leg hurt like, well, it hurt.

Ever since Christmas, I have been popping Advil, four at a time, all day long.  Before, During and After a run.  Advil is my friend.  Kinda.  I take too much of it and I know it.

So, Thursday, I quit taking the Advil.

Ouch!!!  Something is seriously wrong here!!!

Finally, It hit me.  Duh.  Classic Femoral Stress Fracture.  Treatment.  Crutches.  Dr. Appointment pending for Monday.

I am on crutches now.  Getting ahead of the curve.  The MRI to know for sure will be Tues/Wed and then I will find out the “rest of the story.”

So, today, I did not run.  It about killed me to go to the running group and watch everybody head on out the door for the 13 miler I was planning on doing, but I stayed put.

Yes, I really went and did it this time.  No more Advil.  No more running (for 4-6 weeks or so).  I had to kiss my Ultra (March 1) good-bye until next year.

BUT~~~I am registered for a 10K in MAY!!!  So, if I am careful and behave, I might me ready for that race!  That would be cool!!!  Add on to that my Fall Marathon and few other races tossed into the mix for grins.  It will be just fine.
