MFH (My Favorite Husband)

Today’s Run:  Rest Day

Many of you know that I lost a hen last week to an opossum.  You also know that we moved our trap back into the back yard and that we caught said opossum.  What you do not know is that in the last three nights, we have caught a “critter” in that trap.  It works very well.

MFH goes out every morning with his .22 and “takes care” of the critters that want to eat my lovely, lovely hens.  He is a good guy.

We have a place where we take the animals after they have had their confrontation with the .22 and leave them.  This is the country, after all.

This morning, I was out feeding my chickens when MFH went out to take care of the “raccoon” that we had caught last night.  I really, strongly dislike raccoon’s.  They are mean.

As I was feeding the hens, I was also watching MFH.  He was casually walking up to the trap and then stopped.  Then he backed away…fast.  From a distance he aimed and I heard a “pop.”  Then MFH ran!

Whatever is going on!?!

Then, I smelled it!  Oh, NO!!!

Our “raccoon” this morning was a skunk!!!  That all too familiar “black and white perfume” was permeating the early morning air.

I hurriedly finished with the chickens and made a mad dash to the house.

Fortunately, that one “pop” was true and MFH did not have to go back out.  After just a little bit, he took a trash bag and bagged the skunk (we usually do not bag the opossums and raccoon but this was different!) and took off for happier/safer/more distant places.

It is still odoriferous outdoors.  I think I will spend a great deal of today indoors!  Whewie!!!
