Week 14~~Marathon Training…34 days until the race!

Today’s Run:  Rest Day

I am NOT getting sick…I am NOT getting sick…I am NOT getting sick…

My son has been sick the past 1 1/2 weeks.  He has been coughing/hacking/blowing and sneezing all over the place for that amount of time.  BUT~I am NOT GETTING SICK!!

I think that from mowing with the uber dry conditions out there right now, I just inhaled a TON of dried grass, weeds, dust and dirt.  Yup.  That’s all it is.

Today is the much anticipated rest day after a Loooong run day.  It has been glorious!  Slept until 6:30 this morning.  What a lazy daisy I am!  I hardly ever sleep past 5:00.  That run yesterday really wiped me out.  It was great!

This coming week is a “fall back” week in our training.  Our long run is only 12 miles.  Piece of cake!  It will be nice to only have to run for a little while instead of four hours.  Looking forward to a nice, relaxing run on Saturday.

Last week we logged 40 miles.  That brings our total for the month to 70.00 miles and our grand total for the year (who’s counting?) 881.81 miles.  My goal for the year is 1,000 miles.  I am hoping to reach that within the next couple of weeks!

October 1, the registration for the 50 mile Ultra I am wanting to do opens!  That particular race is March 1, 2014.  I need to count backwards on a calendar and find out when I need to begin training.  The training programs I am considering are 15 weeks programs.  I will not have a lot of time to dawdle after I finish this marathon before I have to begin training for the Ultra.  Will have to keep my mileage up!

These past 13 weeks training of training for the marathon have flown by.  I think the thing that has made it so much fun is getting to train with my husband.  The poor guy has not been overly enthusiastic about this race.  He has already run two other marathons and swore he would never do another but because I really wanted to experience it for myself, he agreed to do one more with me.  He’s a keeper!

I am on my own for the Ultra, though.  He loves me but a guy has to draw the line somewhere      🙂

34 more days and you will no longer have to listen to training stories.  I bet you are counting the days (but probably just because then I will have to find something else to talk about!).  Both my husband and I now feel confident that we can complete the race.  Probably not set any records but complete it, yes.

Bar Harbor, Maine, here we come!!!
