Today’s Run: Rest Day
After a restless night, I went out to check the traps around my chicken tractor. I did a head count…yep, seven chickens. I was sad because I used to have nine. I was happy, though, to be able to count seven instead of six or five…
I peeked into the traps. Empty. I had not caught a thing! Rats. Actually, double rats!
Whatever this critter was, it had picked my traps clean and not sprung the trap! They made off with the goods!
My hens were all tucked safe and sound into the chicken tractor. They were waiting for me to open the door and let them out for the day. After my son and I stapled the metal hardware cloth around the tractor yesterday, that thing is practically Fort Knox. There are still a few vulnerable spots but there is not a thing I can do about that except keep my fingers crossed.
After reading the instructions for the traps again this morning, I discovered that they have a “sensitive” setting. I am going to try that this evening.
I had wild dreams last night about the many things I caught in the traps~everything from mice to dinosaurs. Funny that!
Tonight, hopefully will be a successful night and I can put a stop to whatever is eating my hens.
