Closed Group

Today’s Run:  5.00

Yesterday I was invited to join a closed group on FB.  This group was for people who attended my particular college “in the day” (1980-1984) and I was a little bit surprised to be asked to join this group and accepted with a little trepidation.

You see, I attended (and they actually gave me a degree in the 4 years  time!) a small Bible College.  They required all students to have a double major.  The first major was, you guessed it, Bible, and the second, they Allowed you to select.  There were lots of “thou shalt nots” at that school (read: rules) that left many of us with a bad taste in our mouths.  That is unfortunate.

There were a great many of us who found creative ways around the rules.  And some that we blatantly broke!   ie: the women must always be in dresses, stockings and heels.  If you needed to go to the library late in the evening, you had to get all dressed up.  What a hassle.

There were curfews, dating rules (one must dbl date, thank you), no movies, classical music only and the list goes on and on…

(I left that particular denomination after graduation.  I found out reading through the closed group that a lot of people, even those that entered the ministry are NOT in that denomination either!  Interesting, that!)

BUT~there is one particular prank of which I am especially proud and that was mentioned on the board yesterday…to this day, not one of us has confessed~you see, the cafeteria doubled as the chapel area.  This building is locked at night.  We managed to keep the door that led to the ramp of the building un-locked (duct tape).  Later, after curfew, a few of us met and pushed another friends VW “Bug” up the ramp and behind the curtains of the chapel area.  The next morning, when they opened the curtains for chapel, Viola!  There was a car!!!  Ha!  The administration was sooooo mad!  Everyone else thought it was hysterical.

There was a man hunt to find out the people responsible for that particular prank.  We broke a zillions “rules” pulling that one and probably could have gotten expelled.  I still smile thinking about that.  It was pretty blatant “In your face, administration” and it was fun!

So, this closed group has brought me into contact with people I have not spoken with since 1984.  It has been fun reliving some good times and finding out that I was not alone in my frustrations over the legalistic overtones of my institution.  Good times!
