POW Camp

Today’s Run:  2.50 miles

I have spent the last week in Severance, Colorado.  Severance is a remote suburb of Denver.  Very. Remote.  I found out today that between where we are located and Ft. Collins (15 miles from Severance) there is the location of a former WWII POW Camp.  Interesting.

My daughter originally told me that the POW camp was an old internment camp from WWII.   She was mistaken.  I came back to the house and “Googled” it and discovered that it was, instead, an old POW camp.

Upon further investigation, I found out that it housed German POW’s.  Being the history buff that I am, I spent that afternoon at my laptop saying things like, “Wow!” and “Interesting” and, “Look at this!” to my daughter.  She was bored beyond tears and regretting pointing this camp out out me.

The prisoners were “forced” to do agricultural work.  This area grows beet and onions and carrots.  They did planting and harvesting~depending upon the time of year.

I will not bore you with any other details.  Just suffice it to say, I was fascinated!  I did manage to find one pic, online, of a building from the POW camp and will attempt to share it with you here.
