Today’s Run: 5.00 miles
We were led down the Primrose path this morning. By a bird. A Killdeer bird to be exact.
This mornings run found us running Evans Rd to Limerock Rd. 5.00 miles round trip (give or take a bit). This is the only route that does not have gravel and seeing as we received a lot of rain last night, we had no choice but to run to Limerock Rd. Everything else would be muddy.
Evans Rd is hilly. That is good for you. Kill the Hills is my motto! As we ran up and down those hills, I noticed that there were wild Primrose in bloom all along the road side. How pretty! I thought of the phrase, “Being led down the Primrose path”. Seeing as we were running down a Primrose path, I thought it apropos~even though we were not being led astray.
Enter the Killdeer.
The Killdeer is this funny little bird. It is not very colorful and it lays its eggs along the side of the road. No nest. Just lays them along the rocks on the side of the road. The eggs blend right in with the gravel there along the edge of the road.
When danger approaches (“Danger, Will Robinson”) the bird jumps into action. It starts making a ruckus and running around in the middle of the road dragging a wing like the wing is broken. It leads you away from the eggs trying to make you follow it. I always feel bad for this bird because I have absolutely no intention of bothering those eggs and yet this bird is thrown into a panic when I run by. I try talking to it, to reassure it, but that is a no go.
Once we pass the eggs, the bird hurries back to resume parenting duties. That is the Killdeer bird.
