Today’s Run: 50 min lifting at the “Y”
I am a beekeeper. I have five bee hives in my Apiary. Two of those hives are “grouchy”. I do not know if they are AB (africanized bees) but they do make it a challenge to extract honey and to check on their progress.
When my husband and I go out to work with the bees, we “suit up”. Two pairs of jeans. Two long sleeved shirts. Boots. Bee suit, hat, veil and leather gloves. We feel invincible! But with those grouchy hives, we have learned that we are not.
Our bee suits came with heavy canvas hats and mesh veils. The veils work great but the hats? Well, I keep getting stung through mine, so this Spring I invested in a pith helmet and flowing veil. It is great! The attacking bees go, “Ping! Ping! Ping!” off of the helmet and no stings! I am very pleased with this. The only thing that keeps me from being 100% satisfied with this new chapeau is my husband thinks I look like “The Flying Nun”.
“The Flying Nun” was a television show that was on when I was a little girl. Way back in the 1960’s. I think it went off the air in 1970? Don’t quote me on that. It starred Sally Field and I loved watching her float through the air and get into all kinds of mischief.
