When I was in third grade, (back in 1970?), my parents put me in AWANA Clubs. This is a club that churches can run. You play games, sing songs, memorize Scripture, earn awards, etc. It’s a nice, wholesome club.
One of the staples for this club is the game circle. All games, which usually involve running individually or as a team effort, center around the game circle. Points are earned and the team with the most points wins.
Last night, I started having race dreams. Last night in my dreams, I ran my 50 Mile race. It. Was. Dreadful. The entire 50 Mile race was run around that silly AWANA circle.
Around and around and around and around…all night long. What a night!
Finally, after about the zillionth time around the circle, they declared that I had run 50 miles. Myself and all the other runners.
We stopped running and they got ready to hand out the awards….just like they did when I was a kid back in 3rd grade.
First they handed out the overall winner award, then they started handing out the AG (Age Group) awards. I came in 4th in my AG. I was puzzled seeing as there were only two of us registered in my AG, but I woke up before I could find out why I came in 4th and the only other person in the AG got 1st.
Dreams are funny that way.
4 days until race day!!!
