Car Shopping

MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I are in the market for a new (read: used) car.

We have been driving a 2010 Honda Accord.  We purchased our Honda in 2012(?).  I think that’s right.  From the day we bought that car, any drive over an hour in length, it has made my butt hurt.

There’s just no other way to say it!  If we drive for over an hour, I get incredibly uncomfortable!  I shift my weight.  Sit on car cushions.  Take Advil.  We’ve tried everything.  No matter what we do, when we travel, I hurt.

We’ve tried having me drive more.  The floor of this car kinda curves where the accelerator is located.  When my foot is down by the gas pedal, it twists my knee a little bit and my knee screams at me.  I end up with pain going all the way up my leg.

This car sucks.

It is reliable!  Great gas mileage!  Everything about it is great…except I cannot travel in it.

Soooooo….

We have started looking to replace the Honda.

After doing a bit of research, we discovered that from 2010(?)-2014(?), Honda and a few other car companies used the same nasty car seats and a LOT of people were complaining about the same problems I have been experiencing.  Makes one wonder, doesn’t it?

We decided to look at previously owned “luxury” sedans.  We have been shopping around looking at Lexus and Genesis.

We went to the Genesis dealer two weeks ago.  They had one used Genesis.  We wanted to do a “sit test” in these two cars specifically.  The Genesis guy was cool.

“Sure!  You can sit in the car.”  He let me.  We test drove it.  NICE!!!  The only drawback was this particular car has a HUGE engine (that means it sucks gas in a big way).  They come in a smaller engine but the previous owner had requested the big engine.  Boo. We really liked it, though.  VERY COMFY SEATS!!!

We went to look at a Lexus.

Same day.  Same clothes.  We hadn’t changed a thing in our appearance.

We pulled into the Lexus place and hopped out of the Honda to kick some tires.

The salesman pounced.

He looked at us and announced, “I don’t want to be ‘that guy,’ but I think a Lexus would be out of your price range.”

HELLO!?!

We hadn’t mentioned price, our income…nothing!  He had judged us on our appearance alone.  We kinda poo-pooed him and asked to let me sit in the Lexus.

This guy made a big production about going to the office to get the key.  Then he comes down to where we were still waiting (in the hot Mississippi sunshine, thank you).  He unlocks the car and then asks me to wait.  He wanted to pull the car out so I wouldn’t ding the car door against another car.

These cars were parked so that there was almost room for another car to be parked between them.  There was NO WAY you could ding the car doors even if you tried!!!

He finally let me sit in the car.  It was nice but I liked the Genesis better.  He finally “allowed” us to test drive a Ford Focus (#fail).  I wouldn’t buy a car from this guy if he was the last car salesperson alive.  I would go and buy a horse first.

All that aside, we ARE on the lookout to replace our Honda Accord.  Haha!!!  We just won’t be buying from that guy.  🙂
