Too Much, Too Soon

Today’s Run:  2.00 miles

Today was my first day back running after being diagnosed with strep and an ear infection.  I was diagnosed on Sunday, took Sunday and Monday off from life trying to recover.  I was a good girl!

Tuesday, I mowed.  It needed to be done.  We have almost two acres here on the Mississippi Prairie.  Two hours of of riding mower and one hour of push mower work.  Great calorie burning exercise but hard on a sickie.

I figured that with doing nothing for two whole days and “almost nothing” yesterday, well, that meant that I could run a few miles today.  I planned on running Watson Road.  Watson Road is a nice gravel road that round trip is 3.56 miles.   I know it is 3.56 miles because I have run it what seems like a million times and my Garmin always says 3.56 miles.  So, it must be gospel if Garmin says so, right?

Off I went this morning.  It was a little warm~70ish F.  Not too terribly humid (by Mississippi standards) but boy, it was tough! I had sweat pouring off of me before I hit the first half mile.  This was not good.  But it was only 3.56 miles, not too far.  A walk in the park!

I made it down then end of our road (our road is .56 mile from our house to the stop sign) and turned right to Watson Road.  Hill. Ugh!  Trudge, trudge, trudge.  It was not even a big hill!  It felt like a mountain!

Ah!  There is Watson Road!!!  YAY~!  I again turned right onto Watson and went 1/4 mile or so and said, “Forget it!” and turned around.  I was dizzy and way too sweaty for the tempo I was running. Not good.

I gimped back home.  NO~I did not walk.  I ran.  I had some semblance of pride remaining.  That .56 mile from the stop sign to our house seemed like an eternity but then, “Bow, wow, wow!!!”.  There was my dog, Paxton saying, “You are home!!!” and “Are not you a little early???”.  Fortunately, dogs are our best friends and do not judge you by failed runs.  He just welcomed me back into the air conditioning.  Home sweet home!
