Home, Home On The Range

Today’s Run:  None

Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam, Where the deer and the antelope play, Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Chorus
Home, home on the range,
Where the deer and the antelope play;
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
This is the state song for the State of Kansas.  We traveled through Kansas today…a very long time…we drove through Kansas the long way, end to end, not top to bottom.  While we were driving, I had this song on my mind…for a very long time.
I must say that things in Kansas are changing.  When we first started driving this route, back in 1996, there was a LOT of open space.  There still is a lot of open space, do not get me wrong but it is getting cluttered.
We passed a huge wind farm.  It takes approximately five miles to drive through the windmills on Interstate 70.  They are stately and have a calming effect on me.  I cannot explain it.
We passed tons of cattle dotting the hills.
We passed TONS of oil wells.  Oil storage.  Oil drilling equipment.  Oil stuff everywhere.
We saw dust devils.  It was super windy today (the wind farm was really twirling) and the wind was kicking up the dust devils.
We saw deer.
We did NOT see antelope.  The deer were lonely.  No one with which to play.  Poor deer.
