Castro and Loki

If you read yesterdays blog, Musings, you may recall that I mentioned my son’s cat, Castro.  Castro came to live with us two years ago this month!

Castro is a white kitty.  He has a little bit of orange in his face and on his tail.  Other than that, he is all white with blue eyes.  He is a good boy.  He likes to purr and he likes to catch birds.  That last part about him is not so endearing.

When our son moved to Mississippi from Colorado, he brought Castro with him.  Our son got his own apartment and he and Castro make themselves at home~that is until one night, Castro escaped!

We looked everywhere for that silly cat.  We put up signs.  We called the animal shelters and called local vet offices.  No Castro.  This was upsetting!

Time passed.  Castro was gone.  We figured he had been hit by a car or something.  Time to move on.

Our son decided he needed a new companion pet.  He did not want another Houdini cat~a cat that could escape~so he decided on a Bunny.

He watched Craigslist.  He watched the listings in the newspaper.  He finally found a bunny in Tennessee that would be a good “fit.”

Off we drove to Tennessee.

We came home with a baby bunny.  Our son christened him, Loki.

Loki, too, is white.  He has some brown spots in his fur and a cute fluffy tail.  He likes to “thump” his foot~just like Thumper in the movie Bambi.  He is litter box trained and does a pretty good job of that.  He likes to chew.  And chew.  And chew.

Loki is a very cute and very fuzzy termite.

After Loki had come to live with my son, things went swimmingly.  Then, we received a phone call~at our house, not my son’s house.

“We have your cat.  Come get him now.”

“What!?!”

“We found this white cat.  He has a name tag on his collar with your phone number.  It says its name is Castro.  This is your cat. Right!?”

“Um, yes.  We thought he was dead.”

We asked where he was.  This cat had been living above the ceiling tiles in the cafeteria at Mississippi State University!  How in the world did he get there!?!

We immediately went and picked him up.  He. Was. Pudgy.

When Castro went missing, he was a very skinny kitty.  He was not anymore.

I guess living above a cafeteria made for good eating!

Now our son was faced with a dilemma. What to do with his cat.  He had a bunny and bunnies and kitties to not make good playmates.

Castro came to live with us.  Permanently.

That is the story of how we ended up with cat #2.  Someday, I may share with you how we got our daughter’s cat, Kali.

As a side note.  Our other cat, Kali?  She is Castro’s mama.  They do NOT get along.  There is usually some fur flying at our house.  Never a dull moment!   🙂
