Getting over the hump

[Today’s run: 5.2 miles]

It is the 3rd of February. We’ve gotten through December and January so winter is slowly passing by. We have layers of snow on the ground and our forecast for the next 10 days includes some serious cold. Maybe after that we will start to move toward spring.

Here I am today, 15 degrees. My hat soaked up enough sweat that I had icicles developing in front of my eyes. I actually didn’t get overly cold. I started off with the buff over my face, but it eventually froze up and I couldn’t breathe through it.

It takes a special kind of fortitude to move to that climate on purpose. My friends in New Hampshire are that way. Also an appreciation for the change of seasons. Personally, I loved living in Minneapolis and Madison before that – I really did. Snow shoes and cross country skis are in storage and haven’t used in 20 years. I recall that you stop on the trail and go from super hot to frozen stiff – the sleeves and pant legs – in a few short minutes!
