Turbo nothing, so far

[Today’s run: 3.5 miles]

A few months ago my PC hard drive died.  It had Windows 10 on it and all of my Windows stuff.  Since then I’ve been using this Ubuntu Linux system instead and the Windows machine has been sitting idle.  I had made an attempt to put in a new hard drive and copy the old contents over.  But, by the time I tried it the Windows hard drive was too far gone.

Fortunately, I have most of my documents and pictures backed up on a USB removable hard drive in a little case.  So I was able to get most of my pictures and stuff off of the Windows box without any trouble.

Now my wife is prompting me to get started on our taxes for which we usually use Turbo Tax. But I don’t really have a computer to run Turbo Tax on, unless it runs under Ubuntu.

I have her old Windows 10 laptop.  I should probably just use that one and quit fooling around.

p.s.  I went to look and now I am using the online Turbo Tax and I’ve got most of the data entered.  And I found my .pdf files of the returns for the last few years on my backup drive.  I think we may get a small refund.

FWIW, I use excel and fillable PDF forms for state and fed. That’s yet another benefit of having a simple life. However, next year will need software owing to tax changes at fed level. On that note, a friend of mine who has a complicated life and uses a tax accountant, was unaware late December about possible tax changes relative to property taxes. I told her to pay as much in 2017 as allowed, which she did after first calling her tax accountant- who confirmed it was worth doing. MY question: why didn’t HE call HER? He’s supposed to be in that line of work professionally…
