Hectic, did I say Hectic

[Yesterday’s run: 3.5 miles]

I ran yesterday evening and I forgot to make a blog post.

Today was busy, we had a lot of rain.  But my autonomous weather station seems to be stuck at the moment. 🙁  That’s sad.

I was doing some work on a VPN configuration and eventually discovered that my static IP address doesn’t seem to be working.  Sad again! 🙁

And a big article on vox.com says that people who support Trump are quasi-facists who just don’t like social change.  Actually, it says they are “authoritarians” who value stability and social order.   I don’t support Trump, but I can see some reasons why a person would.  All of these people who have been saying that quick social change is going to bring trouble, turns out they were right.  Sad again! 🙁  Who could have thought that people that claimed to be upset about Obamacare and gay “marriage”,  illegal immigration … they actually meant it.  Whoa.  Vox being vox, they take the line that we really could do without these neanderthals, while also pointing out that anyone sufficiently threatened will do the same thing.  You poke people with a stick and they tend to get mad.  Who’d a thunk it?

Which brings me to my final point:  I kind of like President Obama.  I like the idea of President Obama.  But people have been telling me that he’s the most divisive president we’ve ever had.  And I must admit I am starting to agree.  By accelerating social change, and basically leaving a large part of the population with no voice in the changes, he’s ripping the place apart.

I think I’ve wandered off base a bit.

Anyway, lots of stuff going on, both on the home front, the work front, and the wider world.

Our weather station isn’t working either. Of course it only consists of the indoor gadget and the outdoor gadget, which currently needs a battery. I started to be concerned until I realized I could just step outside and see what was up.

I think Obama would be a fun guy socially. But I found his “I’m the king, so shut up” style of speechifying to be so grating I just can’t stand to listen to him anymore. There have been a couple of times I thought his address to the country could help calm a situation and reassure folks, but he couldn’t pull it off and it was sad and obvious he’s entirely out of his depth. It’s too bad. I don’t mind if he’s out golfing or doing whatever, because it just doesn’t matter.

I rebooted the weather station this morning. That involves a ladder and a screwdriver. It is running again now. But we missed a day of weather, including about 2 inches of rain.

It’s an exciting time as the GOP is in schism at the national level. Romney’s speech was really something. I don’t think there is precedent for that kind of thing.

I hadn’t read Romney’s speech but I went and found it. He’s right.

Its probably a cultural thing as I have a 180 degree opposite view. I find him to comport himself and speak far more presidentially than his predecessor. I don’t sense any arrogance – much to the contrary. It’s too bad that his job was mostly cleaning up the mess that was left for him – but he knew that going in. We are down to 5% unemployment and without his and other actions we’d all be selling apples and pencils on the street corner. (Not that we are out of the woods yet.)
