qrp fox hunt

[today’s run: Watson Road]

Tonight is the 2nd week of Summer Edition 20 meter QRP Fox Hunt.

I’ve mentioned it before.  In the winter they do 40 meters (7.0 MHz) and 80 meters (3.5 MHz) and in the summer it is 20 meters (14.0 MHz).

Last week was the first and I was able to contact both foxes (there are two each week).   I am 100% so far.  I think the best I have ever done on this type of thing is about 50% by the end.

I used my Willamette transceiver last week.

Also, I signed up to be an alternate fox.  I am way down the list of alternates.  If about 10 people decided to quit, they would  be calling me into the game!

In other news, I recently bid very low on a piece of scientific equipment that came up as surplus over at Mississippi State.  It’s a 1970’s era mass spectrometer.  Sounds great to me!  If nothing else, there will be lots of knobs, screws and sheet metal to take apart.
