I thought I would mention this book I have been reading. The Last Lion by William Manchester. It is the second book of a three-part biography of Winston Churchill. Very interesting stuff. I am wading through the mid-1930’s and how the British government was trying so hard to avoid a repeat of WW-I.
I bought this at the Palmer House Thrift Store, I think. I do not have part 1 or part 3.
Before this I read the autobiographies of U.S. Grant and W.T. Sherman. Before that it was the biography of Dr. Johnson by Boswell.
I guess I am on a biography roll these days.
It is interesting to see how people acted in the circumstances of their lives.

I think you should tell all your Mississippi buddies that you’re reading about Sherman.
And then buy lots of ammo. And fire extinguishers : )
I have had a few conversations about the Civil War with people down here, not very many. One time while running we got to talking about such things. I mentioned that my ancestors were in the 8th Iowa Cavalry and helped burn some kind of mill in Tuscaloosa. It was suggested that I not bring that up too much.
I have all sorts of opinions about the subject. But don’t know if I’ll get to air them much. US Grants final few pages sum it up pretty well, I think.
Sherman was an interesting guy. He could have been president if he wanted it. Grant, Sherman and Sheridan were the big three. I also read a biography of Jefferson Davis.
