[Today’s run: Watson road (3.4 miles)]
On Easter we are hosting a family get together. The last couple of years we have had a treasure hunt for the Easter baskets for the kids.
This time I was kind of out of ideas for clues. So I decided to do something a bit different this year. Each kid will have an adult partner, a compass, a 10′ piece of rope (marked every foot), and a 3×5 card with their first clue. The clues will be azimuth (degrees) and distance (feet) to the next clue. After about 6 clues they should find their goodies.
Today I went to Wal-Mart and bought some cheap compasses. We have some already but I thought I would just see what Wal-Mart had. They were cheap, so I bought them. That way the kids will be able to take theirs home.
We had fun laying out the waypoints. And, I think we may give a little compass instruction before sending everyone out. But I don’t think it will really be very hard.
Maybe next year I’ll have to draw up a map and we will try map-reading. But we shall see how this one goes over first.
