I have a pigeon

[Sunday:  2 hours of rowing; Monday 3.5 miles mixed run/walk]

I was going through a box of my office decorations from when I had an office and I found this certificate for the International Pigeon Registry.

When we lived in Chicago in the late 1980’s we frequently listened to WGN on the radio.  In the evenings there was a variety radio show by  two guys called the Al and/or Ed Show.  It also happened to be the time when the International Star Registry was advertising quite a bit.  So they put together this charity International Pigeon Registry.  You give them some money  (I don’t remember how much) and they give you this certificate.  And the money, or most of it, goes to the Make A Wish foundation charity.

My wife decided I needed one of these for Christmas, which was a nice thing to do.  She had to travel all the way downtown to get it.

Since I worked downtown I could go by Daley Plaza anytime I wanted to and see my pigeon cavorting with his friends.  (yeah, right!)

We also didn’t have a television during most of that time.  And I think there were two occasions when she called in to talk to the show and they were amazed that we didn’t have a TV.  Their thing was that they had all sorts of coupons and gift certificates for restaurants and such and they gave them to the callers if things were interesting.  So I think we had two different free meals due to not having a TV.  (and for all of you kiddies out there… we didn’t have internet in those days either)
