[Yesterday: 30 minutes split between elliptical machine and treadmill]
On Monday we traversed the UP of MI from west to east. We followed the south shore of Superior up to the Apostle Islands area, then drove on to Marquette. Then we went on 41 to the south and picked up the north shore of Lake Michigan and followed that all the way to St Ignace. We took the ferry to Mackinac Island, had dinner, and came back. Then we drove on to overnight in Gaylord, MI.
Yesterday we drove from Gaylord to the Detroit area with a quick stop in Frankenmuth.
Frankenmuth was impressive. It reminded me of Pella, but even more successful in turning a cultural motif into commercial success.
In Detroit we visited with my wife’s “running buddy”. She is paired up with this boy and his family. She posts things on the internet about him and converses with his family. She shares her running experiences, particularly race medals and such. It maybe doesn’t sound very impressive when I write it out, but the family seems to appreciate the encouragement. The little guy has a lot of from-birth health problems and his family has to give him 24/7 care. So they have their plate full and maybe a bit of outside encouragement is a good thing. We had a very nice visit, I thought.
Then, we were aiming to find a motel just past Toledo, OH, but things were booked up so we continued on to Ft. Wayne, IN.
Today we are supposed to have lunch with the wife’s on-line running coach. Tomorrow we aim to have a quick meeting with more running friends near Nashville, TN.
