Hospitality

[Yesterday: 6 miles with Boardtown Runners] If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile you know that I usually go over to Starkville for a group run with the Boardtown runners.

We moved to this area in 2009 and late that year I did an internet search on running groups.  I had a marathon to train for.  I started getting up early to drive over and run.

A few years later my wife started going with me.  She was not a runner but she would go and hang out at the White’s house and talk to them while I ran with the group.  Then she started running and now she runs a lot more than I do.

Mike and Marcy are some of the most hospitable people I have ever met.  Every week they have dozens of people come to their house early on Saturday morning.  Not only that, they prepare food and drink for us.  They choose the route.  They put out water stops.  They have turned a big chunk of their house into a space where people can meet.

A couple of times a year they have a non-running pot-luck type meal too where more than just runners are invited. If you get the opportunity to come out on a Saturday morning to run, or to walk, you should do it.

The reason I brought my wife into this story was to illustrate that even if you don’t run, you’ll be encouraged just to be there.
