More GPSDO: tracking down the problem.

[Today’s run: 3 miles]

I’ve been wrestling with this project for well over a year now.

My GPSDO is not DOing.

The control board is supposed to compare the oscillator to the GPS and make adjustments using a control voltage.  But the oscillator appears to be having a problem. It sometimes gets in the mood of not responding to the control voltage.

When that happens it acts like a fixed-frequency oscillator.  It slowly drifts, and the control card tries to adjust but the drifting continues.  Eventually the control card has the voltage all the way and still nothing changes.  Not so good.

I have had a few false leads figuring this out.  But I think I am finally seeing the reality.

So, now that I recognize the real problem is in the oscillator I am relieved.  I could buy another oscillator  ($100 on ebay).  But I’m going to try to repair this one first.
