Losing interest in the Fiscal Cliff

[Today’s run: rest day]

Maybe I should be worried but I’m not very worried.

I think the “Fiscal Cliff” is just a taste of the austerity that we will be seeing unless/until the economy starts to go again.  And with the additional regulatory burdens and the kick in the knee that is Obamacare, I don’t think there is much hope for the economy to do anything any time soon.

I know there are specific cuts and tax implications of the FC.  It would be nice if the people who are elected to figure this stuff out were to actually figure something out.  But it seems to me it would have to include tax increases and big spending cuts or it won’t be worth the paper it is written on.  Except for the niceties of  who and what gets cut, it’s still austerity and tax increases, so not much different from the FC.

The focus of my discontent at the moment is the general move toward an administration of law by exception:  if you appeal to the executive branch maybe they will let you have a grandfathered plan or avoid paying for employee contraception, or whatever blessing from The Godfather you are looking for.

Otherwise, I’m just worn out about most political subjects.
