Hamfest: A Hamfest is a convention of amateur radio enthusiasts, often combining a trade show, flea market, and various other activities of interest to amateur radio …
Tomorrow is the Hamfest in Jackson, Mississippi. We have been loading the pickup with all sorts of “treasures” to sell. There are two objectives for going to a Hamfest. The first objective is to come home with fewer “treasures” than when you left from home. The second objective is to come home with extra cash in your pocket! It rarely works that way but it sure is fun to give it a try.
I am going with a shopping list. You see, I am in the middle of restoring a 1941 Silvertone 7048 console radio. It needs a bunch of capacitors and some replacement tubes. It is no big deal to find these parts, you can get them online easy, but seeing as the Hamfest is here and those parts will be for sale and I would not have to pay shipping…it just makes sense! So, I have a shopping list. And of course, there just might be a really cool antique AM radio that jumps into the truck, too. That would be a sad thing to have happen, huh?
We are looking forward to a day away (not too far away, mind you). Coming back with less radio stuff than we left the house carrying and bringing home a chicken tractor and six hens. All in all, a busy and hopefully successful day.
