Drama and Moving

It was been a drama filled week out here in Colorado!

I’m pretty sure I wrote about Tuesday’s adventures but just in case, I’ll do a quick review of Tuesday and then bring you up to date as to what we’ve done this week.  Hold onto you hat!

#1 Daughter and I were going to go for a day of shopping on Tuesday.  We had a list of all the places we wanted to visit and were on our 3rd stop of the morning, paying the rent for February.

Her new roommate (#1 Daughter had only been in this place 3 weeks) had left a note saying she would be on vacation for one week then would be back.  She hasn’t been seen or heard from since.  She has been fired from her jobs.  Her cell phone has been shut off.  Nobody knows where she is.  Very strange.

The landlord is not a nice person and told #1 Daughter that her money would buy her 2 weeks on the apt.  Seeing as #1 Daughter’s name is not on the lease, and the landlord is not a very nice lady, we didn’t trust her and told her that we would be out by the end of the week.

That put an abrupt end to our shopping.  We immediately switched from shopping mode to “I have three days to find a place to live” mode.  Otherwise known as panic.

Things were not looking good.  The price of housing in Colorado is unreal.  There were a few places affordable but the situations were less than appealing.  It would have been better to live in her truck!   Then, she caught a lucky break.

Through a friend of a friend of a friend, we found out about 2 places that were open immediately.  Yesterday morning we were going to check them out but before we were able to do that, I got two phone calls from MIL (she’s totally awesome, btw!).

MIL and FIL had been discussing the situation (#1 Son and told them about it) and they wanted to help.  They contacted me about finding hotels in the area and trying to find out their lowest rates.  They would have #1 Daughter pay what she would normally pay for her monthly rent and they would pay the rest of the months lodging.

The lowest I could find was $60.00 a night.  That means, #1 Daughter basically had enough money to cover one week and the In-Laws would pay the rest.  That’s a lot of money all the way around!  We told the In-Laws that we would accept their very generous offer if the two places we were going to go see fell through.

Off we went!

The first place was great!  The was a townhouse.  #1 Daughter would be renting a bedroom.  Not the greatest arrangement but it was better than nothing.

When we got there, the lady was awesome!  I mean, awesome!  She made it very clear that she did not expect #1 Daughter to come home after work and bury herself in that bedroom, the house was hers, too.  No big deal.  The lady just wanted a little help covering her expenses.  Incredibly affordable (by Colorado standards, mind you), all utilities included.  Washer/dryer were there for her use.  Internet…everything!  Nice neighborhood.  It was perfect!

We told this lady we had one more place to visit but that we were very interested and would let her know in a couple of hours and then left.

We drove 2 blocks when #1 Daughter’s phone rang.  It was the lady at the second place, the place we were driving towards.  “My apt flooded last night.”

#1 Daughter got off the phone, we turned around and drove back to the first place and told the lady we’d take it.  WIN!

The next thing we did was pack up her old apt.  She lived upstairs in her old place, so we carried boxes, mattresses and stuff down those stairs and loaded them into her truck.

In her new place, her room is on the second floor, so we carried all that stuff up the stairs!

Fortunately, it only took us two truck loads to get everything moved.  Now, mind you, that truck was loaded but we made it fit.  HA!

Also, #1 Daughter gets to keep her kitty!!!  We will be driving back to Mississippi tomorrow sans cute, sweet and very fluffy cat.  Sad Panda.

We had a lot of people praying this week and very generous In-Laws who were very graciously willing to help out to keep #1 Daughter with a roof over her head until something came up.

Once we had finished the moving, we drove to a place in Windsor, close to MFH (My Favorite Husband) and my hotel and got ourselves a well earned beer, played a game of pool and called it a night.

Whew!

A week of drama, indeed!
