It Is Ladybug Season

Today’s Run:  5.03 miles

It’s duck season.  Wabbit Season.  Duck Season.  Wabbit Season…

Who remembers that old Bugs Bunny cartoon?  We love that old cartoon at our house.   But it is not Duck season OR Wabbit season, it is Ladybug season!

They ladybugs are out in our neighborhood in force.  They are everywhere!  I love Ladybugs!  They are so pretty and appear harmless.

I know, deep down that Ladybugs are just that…bugs~ but they do have some endearing qualities.  They help control the mosquito population!  When we lived in Iowa (a very long time ago) they had used Ladybugs in certain parts of Des Moines to help eat the mosquito larvae (I believe that is right).

Who has ever heard the children’s diddy you are supposed to say whenever you catch a Ladybug?

Ladybug, Ladybug,

Fly away home.

Your house is on fire

Your children will burn.

Really not the nicest of verses now that I look at it but you were supposed to be able to say the entire thing before the Ladybug flew off your hand to know the Ladybug would be able to get home on time.

How many of you counted the spots on Ladybugs?  That was supposed to tell you how many children she had.  Some Ladybugs only have a few spots and some have tons!  And what about those orange Ladybugs?  I thought they were supposed to be all red and black.

There are all sorts of old wives tales surrounding these cute little bugs.  I just smile when I see them~they make me happy. So, yes. I am enjoying all the Ladybugs flying around my house, landing on my neck when I am running, enveloping the mailbox, getting into the house through the screens…
