Diet and Sunday’s

Today’s Run:  Rest Day

Today is Sunday and a day of rest.  The week preceding a Sunday is a frantic week, chock full of errands, cleaning, cooking and exercise.  Sunday is my day of rest.  Yes, the floors always need swept and the kitchen always needs thoroughly scrubbed but after all it is Sunday and that is a day of rest.

Which brings me to diet.  I am very strict about what I eat in that it is low in fat and carbohydrates.  Basically, I follow a Diabetic diet (for reasons we will not go into here) and therefore am able to eat anything that is not nailed down, as long as it is diabetic friendly.  I have many Diabetic cook books that have a lot of surprisingly tasty recipes!  Yummy!!!

Why can I eat so much?  Because of the active lifestyle chosen.  On Monday, Wednesday and Fridays (if you have followed this blog for any amount of time) I lift at the local “Y”.  On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, I run (average 20 miles per week).  This activity level allows me to eat, a lot!

Which brings me back to today.  Today is Sunday and a day of rest!  Age is creeping up on me and I just cannot maintain the level of activity that would entail working out seven days a week.  I am probably pushing the envelope with what I do right now.  But I believe the saying goes: “If you don’t use it, ‘ya lose it!”.

The “Y” has a program for the month of June called “Mile-A-Day Marathon” where you try to walk/run one mile a day for the entire month to equal the distance of a marathon (26.2 miles).  I extend this program to you as a challenge.  Can you walk enough miles this month (just a couple each day, just to catch up!) to equal this distance?  If you accept my challenge and keep record and show it to me, I might be persuaded to make up a T-shirt for participation!  Just like in a real race!  What do you have to lose?!?  Go for it!
